about your pet portraiture experience
Your planning consultation
Here you’ll share everything you love about your best friend so I can customise your pet portraiture experience and ensure every aspect of their personality is captured. We can do this over the phone or via Zoom.
Your photoshoot
After some getting to know you time with everyone I’ll set about photographing everything you want to remember about your pet/s, forever. Sessions are fun and relaxed. They move at a pace which everyone is comfortable with – be they very young, very old or somewhere in between.
Choose for your session to take place either on-location (in the Sydney metro area) or at the Ruthless Photos studio in Alexandria. Want a mixture of both on the same day? That can be arranged too!
Your purchasing appointment
Your purchasing appointment is a cinematic presentation of your photographs which takes place at the Ruthless Photos studio in Alexandria 7-14 days after your session. Here I’ll assist you in the selection and customisation of beautiful artworks for your home or office with your own decor and your pet’s personality in mind. I’m 100% transparent in all transactions – no hard sells or sneaky surprises are in store for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
WILL MY DOG BE SUITABLE FOR A PHOTO SESSION?
MY DOG DOESN’T EVEN KNOW SIT, CAN YOU STILL PHOTOGRAPH HIM/HER?
MY DOG CAN’T BE OFF-LEAD, WILL THAT BE AN ISSUE?
My puppy isn't fully vaccinated, should I wait?
WHAT AGE SHOULD MY DOG BE?
DO YOU PHOTOGRAPH OTHER PETS?
My cat won't be happy in the studio can you bring the studio to me?
CAN HUMAN FAMILY BE IN THE PHOTOS?
Sessions that are won (as opposed to purchased) are for pets only, unless the winner commits to investing in artworks.
Children need to be old enough to sit up on their own.
CAN WE DO THE SHOOT AT HOME?
If your home has nice light and a beautiful garden with space to run then I’m definitely open to that idea!
WHAT IF THE WEATHER IS BAD?
On-location Sessions: Light plays a huge part in the photos I take. If there is rain or a lot of cloud cover forecast we’ll need to reschedule. I also don’t shoot in high temperatures or strong winds as, in my experience, your dog won’t be comfortable and that will be reflected in the photos from the shoot. My number one goal is to get the best possible images for you so sessions may need to be rescheduled more than once.
Studio Sessions: These are only rescheduled due to weather if there’s a storm so loud that it will pose a distraction for your pet.
MY DOG IS SICK, CAN YOU FIT IN A LAST MINUTE BOOKING?
Where possible my schedule can be adjusted to accommodate urgent sessions for pets that are terminally ill.
DO YOU EVER COME TO ANY OTHER CITIES?
With three high maintenance dogs of my own I very rarely travel anywhere else (for work or pleasure!) but I do offer sessions in Canberra at least once a year and I can travel to other places that meet these requirements:
- I only travel to places I can drive to in NSW/ACT
- Travel session clients commit to invest a minimum of $2995 in artworks from their session
- If I’m traveling more than two hours from home I’ll book overnight accomodation. In this situation I need a minimum of two clients from the area to book and for their sessions to take place in the same 36hr period (ie one at sunset and one at sunrise)
- Artwork collection is from my studio in Alexandria (Sydney)
DO YOU SELL GIFT VOUCHERS?
Yes, I do! They can be purchased from my online store here.

Rufus
“We love our puppy photos, you managed to capture the essence of Rufus. Having previously had Ruth take photos of our older dog we knew the pics would be awesome but we’re just blown away with the outcome. I would highly recommend that if you’re thinking of booking a session with Ruthless Photos, just do it!”
Margaret, Newcastle

Albert & Penny
“Ruth found some excellent places for photos. Albert and Penny each provided her with some different challenges, but she worked with them and captured some amazing photos. She captured Penny and Albert so well, and the canvases have been much admired by everyone that visits our house.”
